BB Gyromite Query
24. Mar 2007 at 17:15

Random question (And I didn't want to hijack the other thread), which is harder to find for the Big Box Gyromite, the USA version or the Can version?  Maybe if we get a general consensus of what everyone has, we can sort of get an inkling of which seems to be around a little more than the other.  I have the USA version and as far as I know I think*:

NGD, RareGameGirl and TheWizard666 have the CAN version.

I'm sure there are plenty of other members that have them, so if you do please feel free to pop in and say which you have and how many.

I think they are about equally rare to be honest.  In the last year I have seen 2 of each listed on ebay.  The year before that I saw 2 US and 1 CAN.  They are bitches to find in nice shape too, loads of them seem to be trashed.  I want a -USA one so bad I can't stand it, I hope to win the next one on ebay.

I got a CAN one in a big lot on ebay a year or two ago.  The month after, I got a USA one and sold the CAN version.

I have a USA one in really nice shape.  I bought it on eBay a long time ago, and the funny thing was that I found another USA one in the wild while the eBay one was in transit to my house (even funnier since I'm in Canada where you'd expect I'd find a CAN one in the wild).  So anyway, I went from zero BB Gyromites to two within the space of like a week.  Then I sold the second one of course.

The main thing is just the code, one is -USA one is -CAN.  The -CAN box also has French writing on it, 2 seals instead of 1, and the Mattel logo.  That is about it though.

I figured that it would be as much...though I thought it would be interesting to get a consensus from the forum members.  It's one of those items not everyone has so you can get a general idea of it.  Thanks to everyone who responded!  Smiley

You said I have the canadian version- I actually have both the US and the CAN versions. Have 2 of the US ones once my auction arrives that I won from the gyromite guy on ebay.
I too agree they are about equal but the canadian version is SLIGHTLY more common.

In terms of production numbers,  more USA ones would have been made than CAN ones.  (There is a 10 to 1 population difference)

Thats also ten times as many people throwing out the boxes Smiley   so maybe they are around equal.

From what I have observed, people tend to favor collecting the US ones so getting a CAN one should be cheaper.

I have been using "Deluxe Set" boxes as a reference point.   Compare how many USA Deluxe Set boxes you see on ebay VS how many Canadian ones as far as numbers.  Its purely a guess.

I want all of em and I have neither so they are both rare to me.
