I would certainly love to see a better picture of the Zombies Ate My Neighbors one...do you have the drawings for the other box or just this variant?
I was curious to know you opinion on something: do you think that Princess Tomato had any concept drawings for cover art, or do you think they just snapped a picture of clay models? I know it's a bit off topic, and somewhat random, but it just seems interesting that they didn't go the same route via a drawing. It would be neat if I knew someone that sculped well...that is one of my favorite games and I would love to have little replicas made of the characters on the box.

I love this game too, but feel embarrassed to admit it! There's really no difficulty to it, but at least it's beatable without some sort of walkthrough/hint book unlike the kemco/seika first-person adventures of the same kind. Sure, throw that spider at the ghost, that will get rid of it...
I'm assuming some of the cartoon art included within the game and manual was probably passed along as a concept for the cover, but deemed two "2-dimensional." At this point in the NES's lifespan (1991) production was at a fever pitch and NES's market share was immense, in order to stand out the developers probably felt they needed to go out on a limb and make something very different for the art. So they went all "gumby" on it. Certainly appealed to the target market as well, the same age group.
