Has the world gone dry?

Is it just around here or has the NES scene dried up?  I can't find any games anywhere other than ebay.  Maybe it is just around here, but it seems that all the good games have wound up in the hands of "collectors" wanting high prices.  So much for a deal.

It depends what you're looking for: right now I'd like to get my hands on a PAL Dragon Ball code EEC, but that's not even on eBay I think.

Maybe someone has an extra copy? Undecided

I agree that finding NES games in the wild is a lot harder nowadays.  I think it has a lot to do with ebay.  Now, people see games NES games on eBay, and they think all NES games are worth a lot of money.  It's hard to find any games around here now, and when I do the people want ridiculous amounts of money for them.

Hopefully Im not jinxing myself by saying this, but it seems to me in my area Im always finding new nes games at the local pawns, goodwills, used video game stores.  This is a college town and the vintage games like nes are very popular.  I am able to pick a lot of things up off craigslist or from my friends of friends when the leave to move back home after college.

I'll be honest though, most of the games that turn up are the same titles, not too often we have really rare stuff come through here.  Most titles I pick up are popular stuff like the mario titles, contra, ect.  Stuff everybody has.  I will pick up rare games sometimes.  I usually use the games I pick up locally as trade bate or auctions online to obtain the harder to find games.

Obviously depends where you are.  If you have access to large flea markets, there's a 98% chance you're going to see something NES related there, but if you live in the middle of nowhere with only one Goodwill it's like 15%.  Back in the day, right when the NES was going out, you could find a ton of stuff everywhere, but now it's PS stuff and N64 at times because the NES is way past the typical family giving it up anymore.  Most people like that gave their stuff away a long time ago, so what's left is kind of filtering around through dealers and such.

Also the fact that Funcoland, babbages, software ect. (AKA Gamestop) Stoppped carrying it all really really crippled the amount available.

Flea markets around me don't have too much and none of it is good. there are 2 pawn shops around me that get some good ones in here and there, But my best bet is the one game store left that takes in nes games, I have gotten some nice stuff there.

IDEA: I haven't done it yet but I really should, make some NES game wanted signs and post them all around you at gas stations and markets, you might find something, I'm hoping too when I finally try it

It's something I complained about 2 years ago here on nesworld.  You know hunting for NES games is over when you can't even find in at local garage sales.

Oh well.  It was fun while it lasted.   Embarrassed

There are a lot of them here in Lincoln, Nebraska- we have two stores from the "gamer's" chain in town, and they carry tons of NES games- each location has a large display case (3 shelves) loaded with NES, and they seem to have a very large variety of games- some as expensive as $20 for somewhat rare or high-demand games, all the way down to the more common or less than desireable games for 50 cents and 95 cents.  Surprisingly their inventory does seem to change fairly often, if they don't have a game I'm looking for they seem to have it the next time I go in.

The pawn shop here gets a lot of games at very reasonable prices, some of which are fairly rare at times.  Back home the flea markets were STOCKED, there are always at least 2-3 sellers whose life is selling old games.

Just hit and miss now I think.  I've been really lucky in this area so far because the pawn shop really gets some good games in and sells pretty much every SNES game at 4 dollars and every NES game at 3.

I think you pretty much nailed it. Too many idiots trying to get rich quick by selling shitty commons like SMB/Duck Hunt and such.

It's not that people are actually collecting them, IMO, but rather people who just want to make a quick buck.

I can't even tell you how many times I've overheard people saying to their friend/significant other/parents/etc at thrift stores and flea markets, "I'mma make a killing off these on eBay! har har har!"

And you look in their hands, and all they have is a few games worth like a couple bucks at most total.

I had been struggling lately but just recently I've picked up about 20 carts.  Nothing too great for insane deals but bunches of decent deals.  Some rarish games like Gilligan's Island and Trog for under 5 bucks each and a bunch of less rares games for under 3 bucks.
