I am new to these boards, and  have come because I could use the help of an NES buff or two.

There is an NES game of which I remember the gameplay and graphics but not the name. The gameplay revolved around roaming through a castle, and I remember at the beginning of the game you could walk back into a house and select from a variety of characters, including the dog.

If this sounds any bit familiar to you, please suggest a title or three. Thanks.

This is easily the most asked about game that people can't remember the title too.

On the gamefaqs NES board there is a running gag where whenever a thread is started asking for the name of a game, someone will always throw in "Legacy of the Wizard" whether it is an adventure game or not.

Was this game sold on QVC or something?  Seems like everyone played it at one point in their NES lives.
