Protos on 3rd Party NES Consoles?
30. Dec 2007 at 21:46

First of all, let me say, "hello all!" This is my first post here.

So I've seen a list of games that the Generation NEX will and won't play. Does anyone know if any of the protos will work on the NES? i.e. Final Fantasy II or hacks like Zelda Outlands? I ask because I just picked one up after reading mixed reviews, with a majority being favorable. It hasn't arrived yet and I don't yet have any protos, but hope to get some. The games I have for NES all meet compadability according to the list and the minor imperfections on the NEX are not big enough to bother me. I guess my reasoning is, I want to know if I should get rid of my Top Loader NES by Nintendo, if this NEX does all I need it to, and that last thing I'd want is for it to do these NES reproductions. Any feed back would be awesome.

The NEX is honest a piece of crap from what I have heard.  The sound on sooo many games is way off, the color palette isn't right and a lot of games simply won't work.  If you have a top loader NES there is no way I would sell it.  A real top loader is the best NES system hands down and works nearly first try every time.

Whether the NEX would play proto's or not is probably a crapshot at best.  Would most likely depend on the game.

I see, I noticed the color palette issue in a game and the sound. It didn't put me off enough to not buy it. But I think I'll keep my Nintendo top loader just in case I see that this thing really is bad. Thanks for the response.

It has some serious design flaws, but still it would work with almost all of the protos out there (depending on the cart's hardware).

I don't have a NEX, but I can tell for sure it wouldn't work with my Squeedo prototype.

Zelda Outlands and FF2 are both (I believe) SNROM games.  That means they "should" work on your system as long as that system works with  Zelda, Final Fantasy or any of the Ultima games.

I really like my top loader. It just never gives me any grief.
I usually had to try over and over to  get my famicom games or pirates working on my toaster (even on my lockout disabled copyNES system)  but thats all because I never changed the connector.
