Snake's Revenge (Cover Art Redux)
30. Dec 2007 at 23:37

So just like any collector that likes their hobbies too much, I've been toying around with new packaging for games. Not sure what anyone else thinks, but I really don't like the original Snake's Revenge cover art. It looks a bit cartooney and cheesy. A game franchise a legendary and epic as Metal Gear has become needs something a little more spiffy than Snake's cover art. I decided to go for something a little more cutting edge:

...

That's just the front cover, I'm planning on making a full box layout and printing a few of these with new sticker labels too. I've also begun work on a Final Fantasy II layout an updated Final Fantasy I layout so they match. The artwork in that Snake layout is obviously not mine, but I hope to perhaps make some of my own for the final layout, that's more of a stand in. Let me know what you all think, and also let me know if I'm posting this is the right section! Tongue

eh what the hell, they're not yet but here are the two final fantasy ones:

...

What do you all think about the nes tag at the top? I like the idea of an ID like modern systems have. Wii has theirs, PS3 has the one of the left going vertical. I figure nes ought to have one. I'd prefer something more original, ideas?

I'm actually a fan of the art that is on the old labels, but I know how fun it is to make new ones. I really like the more simplistic Final Fantasy box quite a bit. As for future boxes, you should check out all the games that never had one. I do labels for old games that never got released and it's a lot of fun to try to match up the art style with what was being done at the time, and it's fun to see them being used on reproduction carts going around the web (though not so fun to see them on ebay labeled as real carts). Check them out if your interested,

Thank you for the comments and Jred I really like the labels. I've seen them on the repro carts. Great job! I dunno for some reason I prefer the cutting edge look. But I should probably focus on making them look more the way the used to only because cutting edge is forever changing. Do you by chance have a label template I could use to make my own? I've tried making labels but they are printed they are always too long.

Ludditesoft, I don't have a template for them, but if you download one you can just use it for a template. It's what I usually do for new ones.

I like your ideas except for the top of the art excep where Wii would be is replaced with NES. Me and my bros are really good with Paint Shop Pro I was thinking of doing some new art for some games. Anybody have any idea how or what to print them on I have a really nice printer to. Also was going to make a real looking Metroid Map that looked like it came with the game.
