Best Dragon Warrior??

I'm trying to consolidate my collection down to the games I'll only get a good amount of gameplay out of. There are plenty of Top Ten Lists out there and and they have most of the same games. Then there are franchises that are good but not top ten. I was wondering, what is the best Dragon Warrior game? I kinda don't want to own own all of them, what is most commonly thought to be the best?

Jan 2008 at 17:28 DW3 is my favorite, but DW4 is quite awesome as well. If you want to bring newer systems into this (which is a travesty, I know), DQ8 for the PS2 is quite excellent, and I'm eagerly anticipating the multiplayer DQ9 for the DS.

I absolutely adored DQ8 on PS2 though and cannot recommend it enough. It really captured what made old RPGs so charming and greatly expanded the formula. Plus you can ride a giant cat!
