I've been a fan of the
Super Mario Bros. film ever since it first came out{1993, which was also the year that I first owned a NES, after renting one for years/owning & playing the Atari VCS and the ColecoVision}.
At the time, its vague connection to my favorite game series{as well as my appreciation of Bob Hoskins} made it a must-see.
In the years since, I enjoy it also for Dennis Hopper, Fisher Stevens, Richard Edson, and Mojo Nixon{because it truly has an extremely eclectic cast}.
On the way home from the theater, my mom and I had our first conversation regarding evolutionary themes, and that has always stuck with me.
The fact that the sets were designed by the same team that worked on
Blade Runner explains a lot, as does the fact that Roland Joffe and Annabel Jankel created
Max Headroom.
