Beginner question about NESASM
27. Jan 2008 at 00:23

Hi,

I hope it's ok to post this question here, I didn't see a beginners section.

I have downloaded nesasm, however can't run the nesasm.exe. When I click on the nesasm icom a small blue window pops up briefly and then disappears.

How can I run this? I am using windows XP.

Could anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance.

I would try running it from a command prompt. (cmd.exe)
Keep in mind that nesasm espects you to pass a file as an argument to it.

nesdev.com is dedicated to nes development,  however be warned that nesasm is not thought too highly of, and so you might get dismissive responses to any questrions about it there.  I believe bunnyboy likes it and has made updates to it.

Thanks. Yes, command prompt working nicely now with nesasm.

I noticed some roms work in jnes, but not in nestendulator or nestopia.

What would be a good emulator for testing roms?

Thanks,
T

Nintendulator is considered the most accurate.   If it doesnt run in Nintendulator, it likely wont run on real hardware either.

FCE Ultra is pretty good too, and I find its memory viewer to be very useful when doing debugging.  If something isnt doing what I expect,  I will write info to zero page memory and view it in the memory viewer.   Thats how I track down if I am going through certain code paths or not.

Thanks. I tested some code in Jnes, which worked, then it did not work in Nintendulator.

Maybe I'll post my code in the Dev area.

Thanks again,
T
