An attempt to make a case for my Jackie Chan proto
21. Mar 2008 at 14:11

I bought this Jackie Chan proto from DreamTR a few months back and it came without a protective cartridge, which bothered me a lot.

Now one of my colleague is a tool freak and I asked him if he had a rotary tool I could borrow. If of course had such a device in his collection and a few days ago he remembered to bring it to work.

So my little project to "develop" a housing for my prototype came to life and I finally got around to doing the crafting (hah) today Smiley

It actually turned out pretty nice I think....

...

Next project is finding a spare AVE cart so I can make a housing for my Solitaire proto....

Looks good Martin Smiley  It would bug me for a proto to not have a case as well.

You did a good job around the edges.   I have a dremel that I used when making the hole in the back of a NES for my USB CopyNES, and I couldnt even get that small hole to look clean.

Well I was extremely careful when cutting the corners as well as avoiding cutting my fingers off (ugh). The rotary tool I used is a Proxxon, I may have to get me one of these some day  Roll Eyes

Hey, nice. Is that proto the same as the Famicom version of Jackie Chan? A pretty fun game.

that does look pretty nice.  I don't think I would have the patience to do that.

I can't say for sure if there are any differences as I've only tested that the cart actually works... I have a feeling that its very close to - if not - the final game.

I'll say it again.  You did a fantastic job cutting that out.  You should see some of the hacked up messes I've made for my dev carts.

Hey Martin, which bit did you use to make your cuts?  I just started doing this with some loose proto boards I had but I'm completely thrilled with the results.  Any tips you could give on what tip and speed you used to make the cuts?  Thanks!

I used a dremel tool, being damn careful not to loose a finger or an eye in the process Smiley

I made some also, not with a tool, but heating a sharp knife and cutting through the plastic case. Will upload some pics and show y'all soon. I't's not superb but efficient enough IMO.
