Question about disabling the NES lockout chip!
28. Aug 2008 at 03:07

I want to disable the lockout chip on my NES so I can STOP BLOWING IN THE crappity smackING CARTRIDGES CONSTANTLY AND USING RUBBING ALCOHOL ON THEM. See here's the thing. What kind of screw driver do I need specifically to unscrew the screws on the bottom? I'm assuming a philips head, but I used different screw drivers from a toolkit, and I couldn't get the screws unscrewed. I think I got the right shape, but the problem is that they're too skinny, and I have to turn them with my finger tips and can't get a grip on it! Is it that hard just to unscrew them? Also, do I use the same screw driver for the inside screws? And how do I cut the thing or whatever inside? This one site said I should use needle nose pliers, but the tips of needle nose pliers don't look thin enough, is that really what I use? I feel like I'm taking a big risk wanting to do this.

+ ... I've never had a problem with any of the screws using a standard size driver.

Same here shouldn't be a problem, so go ahead and try it.

Okay, but what do you recommend cutting the thing with? Because the tips of needle nose pliers look too thick to fit between the other ones.

I used small scissors. I took my time, to avoid damaging nearby pins.

I've only ever used IC clippers.  I got a set really cheap once at an electronics store.

All you have to do is take a longer needle or thing screwdriver and put it behind the pin, move it out, and snap, easy.  Takes a second or two.
