Is this game a fake?
04. Sep 2008 at 20:20

Hello there, I bought a game off  eBay, a copy of Metroid for the NES, complete with Box and Manual, although I have some doubs as if it is or not a real NES game.

The Caution label on the back of the cart is different from my other NTSC NES games, and it's lacking the two "tabs" on the top of the cart on each side of it. Also, the screws aren't GameBit screws, they're normal Phillips screws, and the Nintendo Seal of Quality is completely different from the other games.

If anyone could help me with this issue, I'd really appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Ansat

The Cartridge used for comparing is Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II, NTSC-U/C version

I'm also sending pictures of each side of the PCB, which a friend recommended to send.

I'd say it's real by looking at the board, but others will probably be able to tell you if it's a cart/label variation of some sort or a pirate.

I'd like a closer look at the caution label and seal, if you could please.

There you go. I couldn't get a closer one of the seal with what's written inside it, since it's too small, but what was written was:

"This seal is your assurance that NINTENDO has approved and guaranteed the quality of this product"

Hope all of that helps!

A lot of the early released games for the NES were first released in 5 screw format.  The screws are not security screws either.

The back both carts is normal as well.  The one you compared it to with the golden back has a battery inside it.  The games with batteries inside have gold backs.

The box probably has a hangtab punched in the back as well.  5 screw carts generally go with hangtab boxes.
