Pinout on both PAL and NTSC - ppu and gpu
05. Sep 2008 at 00:16

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone could hand me both the pinouts of the NES GPU and PPU.

reason is, I will try to get a hold on a (dead) NTSC nes for it's PPU and GPU so I can desolder them and solder them via switches on a PAL NES board.

kinda like this:

PAL chips on the board with power detached..... power on the board soldered to the middle of the switch and 1 leg to the PAL chip's power, the other to the NTSC's power leg. (while the other legs of the NTSC chip are soldered to the board.

So if the switches are set to PAL, the pal PPU and GPU it will power as a PAL machine.
And when it's booted in NTSC mode the NTSC chips will be used.

Reason for trying such a project:
I have some NTSC games which have graphic glitches (Mach Rider for example) so when I switch the NTSC chip, it will play normally.

I was wondering...
couldn't I just do this with the CPU?

Cut away the 5v from the original CPU, Solder it to 1 leg of a switch.
Solder a wire from the 5v on the board to the middle of the switch, and solder 5v of the NTSC CPU to the other leg of the switch.

After that, solder all the other legs of the NTSC cpu to the board and see if it works.
If it works I must find a nice place in the casing to stick the NTSC CPU (maybe hotglue it or something or stick it on the PAL CPU...)

After that, drill a hole in the nes casing for the switch and "viola!!!" both NTSC and PAL CPU's in 1 NES!
