Martin's life, and whatever happened to |tsr?
09. Feb 2009 at 04:53

I don't interact with Martin too much.  Apart from an ICQ conversation sometime in the late 1990's that he wouldn't remember, and occasional message board comments, I'm not sure we've ever conversed.

However, if it's not too sappy, I'd be curious what he would be willing to post about how his life is different now than it was when he started NES World and how maintaining the site has affected his life.

Also, most of you currently on the board have probably at some point visited |tsr's NES archive.  It's still hosted on atariage, featuring the last update back in the year 2000 with an explanation why he was quitting the site.

On occasion, I get a little curious what ever happened to the guy.  I know he started at least one other site, but I think he ceased updating that one not too long after he started it.

So, I guess it makes me a little bit of a stalker, but has anyone done any sort of "Where are they now?" on him?

Both sites were daily reading for me for about four years in the 1990's.  Of course, I still check on NES World regularly, or I woudn't be typing this here.

Perhaps I should clarify.

I wasn't asking why |tsr quit his site.  He explains that in his final update.  I was just wondering if anyone knew if he was still active in the NES or other classic gaming scene or anything.

And Martin, yes, it is good to see the site back up.

(Note: As I tried to send this message, I was booted off the board because it went into maintenance mode.  Ha ha!)

That was me messing around, but the update has fixed a lot of bugs that bothered me, so I'm happy  Wink

Last time I saw tsr around was when he was writing for some magazine ages ago, around the time he created the page with info about a lot of DreamTR's prototypes.

Hey limewater, I've been around since the beginning as well and remember when NES World and tsr's site were every day visits of mine. Did you go by limewater back then?

Here's tsr's current column:
http://www.gamesetwatch.com/column_game_mag_weaseling/

I never read it, seeing how I'm stuck in my old ways and only enjoy reading NES-related stuff when I have time to read anything at all, but I'm sure it is probably pretty informative or something.

And here is Mr. Etler's store:
http://www.videogameconnections.com/

Hard to believe it has been over 10 years since I dealt with Mike. Ridiculous.  I got those Codemaster Aladdin games from him.

Adaml, I think I started using "limewater" at some point around 1997, but I don't remember exactly.  Prior to that I might have gone by "Dano".  I used to be pretty active at the NES Nation while it existed, but I don't remember for sure which name I used.  I might have used some variant of "Golgo 13," because I was really into the first NES game at the time.

Thanks for the TSR link.  I'll check that out.

I remember wanting to get one of those Aladdin packs Mike Etler was selling, but $80 was a lot of money at the time since I was only fifteen or so.  I wound up stumbling across a loose Aladdin with the pack-in Dizzy game a couple of years later in a small store in upstate New York.  That still remains one of my most exciting game finds ever.

NES is still tops for me, but I've finally expanded my sphere of interest to include the Atari VCS and other pre-NES video game systems, the SNES, and the N64.
