Powerpak switch operated FDS extra sound mod
24. Apr 2009 at 04:24

Here is a mod i did with my NES adding a 47K resistor with a ON and OFF switch allowing extra sounds when using powerpak and FDS games the video is a step by step process. The circuit board is hidden inside the expansion connector bay under NES check it out pretty awsome. Took me like 2 hours to mod. THE NES was rescued and refubished from garage sale it was not working so i saved its life.

Nice! I recently did the same. I dig the look of the red switch! Smiley

I didn't install any switches though, and put the resistor straight on the board like in the example photo.

I added an 1/8th inch stereo jack on the front (no expansion) and 3 RCA on the back (pulses / tri + noise + samples / expansion). I hooked each three up to different speakers to experience this sort of tri-phonic sound. Sort of overkill but I'm sure I'll be sampling stuff from my NES at some point. I figure all that isolation may be handy for production and mixing with more instruments or what have you.

I'd post some pics if my usb drive didn't start giving me these recognition errors...  Undecided

edit: Silly me, didn't even think to use the sd card slot on my computer instead of the usb cable. Man is that easier.

Sorry for posting on an old post (in fact, I've never posted on a board before), but I am interested in how you ran the effects channel separately.  Where did you run the connection from?  Is it from pin 3 or 9 of the expansion connector or from somewhere different?  This is exciting, as I think you are the only person I've seen who has run this signal separately - excellent work!
