HELP - American NES (1985) Games on European NES
03. Mar 2010 at 18:30

Greetings,
I never done this before, so please be gentle. I bought on ebay an american game (the very well known CONTRA and SUPER CONTRA) mine got lost in time.

After 18 years I tried to play the game again and bought on ebay (american guy). The game doesn't work on my EUROPEAN NES.

I read on this site about converters....but it doesn't explain that much or I didn't read well.

Are the games broken ? or Where do I get this converter or what can I do to make it WORK!

I don't think PAL or NTSC is the problem here, my television supports both I think (since I had an american TAPE and it didn't play at on my old VCR but it plays on this new TV/VCR combo that I have....so).

Let me know. I really want to play this again!

Thank you.

Inside the NES unit is a security chip that only responds to cartridges that are for its region.
So an NTSC cart will not work in a PAL system unless you are able to disable this security chip.

Details about the chip

Details on how to disable it

Thanks al.

I read about that. I thought that was only to unlicensed games and since Contra is oficial.....

Didn't thought it was related.

PS: I've read your TXT file....it seams easy. Just disconnect the 4th PIN in the CIC chip.

Do you know people that did this and worked ?

Before doing this I'm going to research a little bit more about the whole thing.

But from what I already have read....the later NES where created without this CIC chip right ?
