boxart unreleased games

Finaly picking up the nes hobby again after again some bad health, but ok.
I got some time on my hands so i did some internet searching instead of game hunting in the wild.
And found a great list from skrybe about unreleased nes games.
great to read,but out dated.2002 i believe.

There where some pictures of unreleased games etc.
Wich got me thinking. How did some repros got there box art?
Some games are easy because of ads(escape from atlantis) or snes or genesis covers where used (hit the ice).
But wich are made up? i think dracs night out was made up ,because if ound an old nesworld article BUT the pictures where missing Grin
anybody got ideas?

I think where possible, people try to base it on existing work, as you said (releases for other platforms, ads, etc..)

Heroquest is based on the art for its board game.

I believe there was an ad for California Raisins.

I made one for Recca, where I just altered the art from the Soundtrack packaging.

No idea about Drac.  I think that one is actually completely someone's idea.

I've actually never liked the artwork for Earthbound.  The japanese version is all red, so most NES repros do the same thing.  What I did, what took the same look, but make the red look more like a nebula.

In the case of Mike Ditka, I believe NGD had the official promo art.  Same for Happy Camper.

The art from Ditka came from one of those Vidpro cards.
