Don't use earlier games on new 72-pin?
05. Jul 2010 at 08:14

Hello, newbie here.
Got a refurbed toaster-style NES w/ the Mario trilogy on ebay. Lovin' it! I recently saw on the bottom of this site: http://www.jandar.net/nes72pin/
that one shouldn't put SMB/Duck hunt or other early games into a new 72 pin connector while it's still being broken in, because they have thicker boards than later games. This is the only person I've heard say this and was wondering if there was anything to it? I've also heard that things like Game Genies and such can wear the connector out prematurely, b/c the boards are pretty thick. Also, will a worn-out/damaged 72 pin connector ever damage game carts or does the console simply lose the ability to make an electrical connection?

Thanks for any info,
Alex

Well then you shouldn't use a GameGenie either. Honestly I don't see the problem, a connector will get worn either way.

If the connector is too worn you most likely won't be able to "boot" a game and you'll just be presented with a grey or blinking screen

Best way to do it is stick to newer games for a few weeks after buying the new adaptor, give it chance to be worn in before using the Game Genie and older carts.
