There is a reason behind this. To make a two player game, someone is needed to test it with. It isn't easy these days to get someone nearby who could help any time. Internet multiplay can't be used, as it does not represent actual gameplay speed, introduces lags and desyncs, and second player reaction can't be observed directly.
