Help with Famicom Sharp, disk not loading no error
20. Jan 2013 at 21:40

I purchased a Famicom Sharp off Ebay with the pretense that it would require a simple drive belt replacement. I have replaced said drivebelt, de oxidised the metal and lightly oiled the gears so everything moves appropriatly, however the system still fails to load. Is it the disk? or are there any calibrations that I may attempt, any help is greatly appreciated, cheers

I have left it over 10 minutes in this state, the game reframes from loading

I am not too familiar with this hardware but...

Can the famicom side play games?

Anyways the problem with this problem. Your using
floppy diskettes. Which can stop working from time to
time, and are very fragile. Part of the reason why
Nobody likes Discs/CD/Disks. especially the moving
parts.

:::::::: JUST ASSUMING ::::::::

Why I say this is because whatever you insert might becoming damaged as well.

All I can say, is that you need to find out all possible problems for this unit, also. The start up screen could
be frozen for a number of reasons as well.

What do you mean by "side play"?

I'm going to purchase another disk based game to make sure the problem isn't just Akumajo Dracula is wiped (I thought an error code would pop up if that was the case).

I hadn't considered that the loading screen was frozen, I've looked into this and so far most consider freezing screens a belt issue, which wouldn't seem to be the case considering everything appears to be moving.

Thank you so very much for replying I'll get to work on buying another game and make another check to see if the reader head is moving.

*edit* I opened the front panel and the Reader head (the part attached to the spindle) spins appropriately

That is another problem, you probably wil need to purchase another disk system or even install a new drive ( or other part itself ).

Another place to try is assembler and digitpress

What is?
I just bought a mint copy of Metroid, if this doesn't work nothing will. My plan B is to buy a standerd FDS that works, stip its internals and replace the drive in my sharp.

Once again thank-you , i'll go check out both those sites.

I got a Sharp Twin Famicom for xmas last year, but the guy sent the disk drive in a separate box to save shipping costs. The tiny circuit board attached to the motor was cracked, so no Famicom Disk games for a bit! I got a used FDS console without the RAM cart, swapped the drives, and I'm playing Doki Doki Panic all the time!

All you need to do is unscrew the drive from the FDS, swap it with the Twin's, and you have a working FDS drive, plus an FDS paperweight that looks good on a shelf!
