According to British gaming magazine Arcade (#3), French publisher Cryo is planning to bring the futuristic PC racing shooter 3Sixty to N64.
The setting seems familiar: Humankind's need for hairspray and coal fired electricity plants has led to global warming and the melting of the polar ice caps. The waters have now subsided and the climate again changed, with the resultant wastelands -- a dried out sea-bed, a lava flow and an ice covered London for example -- now the place for what else but racing futuristic hydrofoils.
Details about the game are very sparse at this point in time but developer Smart Dog has let out some early info on level structure. Each level will be divided into four sub-levels, the first three, standard racetracks where you're gaining in finishing places is rewarded with weapons: torpedoes, flame throwers and cluster bombs, etc. These weapons are then used in the final arena, where the idea is fairly simple -- kill all the other players. At this stage, Smart Dog is planning around 20 racing circuits.
The game will also feature support for up to four players through a split-screen mode for both competitive racing and death-matches. Several varieties of both single and multiplay are being proposed, including duels, tournaments, and capture the flag.
"Beware, still waters run deep..." (Beware the cheesy marketing tag...)
3Sixty is slated for release in late '99. A US publisher is not yet known.
